Hard Graft BILL FOLDER / ALL GREY
I know you looked at my Hard Graft card case in envy but you thought it’s not beefy enough to impress. Or maybe you wanted something for the suit jacket. Was it the unexpected extra winter coat pockets that tipped you off?
Whatever. This fits your cards and bills beautifully. Your mother will particularly appreciate the ironed bills you take out of it. Everyone hates you for ruining the bills with the card case. No more! Take it out slowly, face down, from the jacket’s pocket. Pretend you don’t want to show it off. Grin profusely.
You like your bill folder.

WENGER Watchmaker 85
I used to have one of these when I was a kid. I remember the blunt blade (obviously there for cracking up watch back covers), the beautiful red anodized Aluminum finish and the very slim profile.
Definitely an EDC item because of it’s beauty and portability. May not be very versatile but it’s stylish and simple to compensate. I’ll get one for the madeleines it serves me.
Whatever your reason, there’s a ‘buy’ link below to get your own.

Let’s talk

To my loyal, classy and smart bunch of readers, new folk — Notes on Objects has been so far unidirectional, stuff from me to you. I post about things I own and love, new things I plan to get. Updates are usually rare because I never post about stuff that looks cool but I would not absolutely-definitely buy. (There’s Uncrate & Co. for that)

However, I’m pleased to see some of my dear readers click through those “buy” links†  and get stuff on my recommendation. Some click through further and end up buying other things, maybe so much nicer than my plugs.
Please share. Tell me the story of how the stuff you saw here and later bought works for you, tip me on another so much more awesome object you found. I’ll post your submissions on the blog, time permitting, to help your fellow readers make even smarter goods choices.
So hit me up with plugs, reviews, tips, thoughts, deals and what not at notesonobjects@gmail.com

I’m all ears,Dan

† Whenever you’re kind to click through those links and order something from Amazon you help chip in for a small commission.

Kindle with Special Offers

This is the same latest generation Kindle you heard of — if you don’t already own one. Amazon did some witty trickery and shove off $25 off the list price (measly if you ask me but it works) and is tempting us with special offers from Amazon themselves and partners. They promise they won’t screw with the reading experience: Special offers and sponsored screensavers display on the Kindle screensaver and on the bottom of the home screen—they don’t interrupt reading.
The deal? $10 for $20 Amazon.com Gift Cards, $1 for an album in the Amazon MP3 Store, and more.
Pre order it now and have it at your door shortly after release on May 3, available for U.S. customers only.  Grab one!

H&M Putty Lace-up Espadrilles
Because good looking shoes are rare and we live lucky good-looking-shoes-times, shoes again. You’ll find these in the current H&M collection for maybe a week or two. I don’t expect them to look as good in person or to last very long. But at the price of a couple of lattes at your hip bodega around the corner — probably very close to your local H&M store anyway —there’s not much purchase decision making to do.

Jump in and out with a pair, don’t be a dick. They look great on you.

TOMS Men’s Stitchouts
Just like the Peu Campers remind me of the ancient Roman shoes, the TOMS Twill Stitchouts are inspired by a traditional Argentinean shoe. These are awesome shoes. I’d buy them if they were ugly, they’re comfortable and featherlight.
TOMS also pledges to give a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair you buy.

ALEC by SALT. Optics
These frames are hand made in Japan (did you donate?) by SALT., an independent company based in California. The ALEC are masculine rectangular classics in acetate that are also fashionable for a woman. I love these. They’ve been on my “Must Have” list for over a year. I always advocate cheap frames for their fragility and feeble in-fashion lifetime. But there’s something about SALT.’s ALEC that I like, enough to forget my cheap frame mantra.
They say they would only ship to continental US but Rach who replies their email tipped me that’s not a problem.
Also, here’s their wonderfully useful Fit Guide page.

BRAUN Watch
I look at my stash and it’s becoming increasingly obvious I’m a sucker for shoes, wallets and watches. In fact I’ve always said there’s not much a man can do to accessorize and stay minimalist while looking good, so focus on the above trio.
Just landed an eye on this really awesome Braun watch and already made the purchasing decision. Hey, don’t get that excited, it’s a 38mm diameter, on the small. And a quartz too, for the bit pricy $180 I hear. I still got to have this and you do too.
I can’t reach a page on Amazon or a major retailer to grab this puppy from so we’ll have to reach Braun through the contact page.
And dude, make sure your girlfriend hasn’t already ordered one from you. It’s that cool.

Ultrafire Light
You know, I’m happy with this light purchase. Go over to the great EDC if you want inspiration for real tactical lights that cost you an arm. This is a mouthful of Ultrafire MCU-C7s Cree Q5-WC 3-Mode 230-Lumen Memory LED Flashlight. Takes in special Li-Ion batteries and you’ll need a special charger. Look at spending around $20 for this perk. Cheap! But you need a light.
This one won’t bulge your pockets and will give you an unbelievable amount of light. It’s so punchy, solid built and good looking I’m going to get a second one for the glove compartment. It’s also a great gift idea.
Pair it with a nice knife, say a Leatherman Juice S2 or an Opinel No. 6 .

Parachute Tote
Okay cheapskate, I get it! You loved the Weekend Duffle, got sold on Temple. Dude, you even googled Jose, Danny, Lydia, Juan and Hector. But you just won’t shell out the $384 on the bag. You want something that is still awesomely cool but you want it cheap. Cheapskate!
Fine, get their parachute tote then. It’s made from a real parachute, man. If you can’t afford that go fish or something.

Weekend Duffle Bag
Temple makes these. One more all-American sourced materials and manufacturing posse. Go look them up, have a peek at their awesome videos. Then stop and order or something.
I’ve been long looking for a great duffle bag and this is it. Has to be it.
Sure, at almost $400 it burns down your throat like wasabi. Hot!
Fuck it! I’ll take two.
Specs are just to fill in the white space. I was sold on the picture.

DDC Hair Organizer
This is the Draplin Design Co.’s no-frills unbreakable comb, with a fancy name. These guys from Porland have a ton of weird but very cool everyday merch. I got mine thrown in as swag for ordering a -wait for it- DDC Sharpie. I never use it but I know I will. Do they still use these? By the word of Aaron Draplin, good for back pockets, travel cases or the glove box of yer car minutes before that next big job interview.
So if you’re as uppity to order a black marker from across the pond, like I did, add the hair organizer to your basket. It’ll make Aaron happy. Want me to ask him to confirm?

Zippo Emergency Fire Starter Kit
Here’s to ranting I don’t camp anymore. Sure I will, eventually. And for that I need to be prepared. I will have to light a fire, possibly not in the best weather conditions.
The Fire Starter kit sports flint wheel ignition that easily lights the water-resistant waxed tinder sticks. The hazard-orange enclosure is also water tight so contents stay dry at all times.
I know I’ll love this one-more-item-to-carry-for-that-one-time-in-a-lifetime-when-you-need-to-light-an-emergency-fire! I mean, it’s beautifully orange. It’s metal so it’s also heavy. Isn’t this what makes a great product?
Thought so!
